Chrysalis Alpacas was started in 2002 with 2 male alpacas to join our Merino sheep. The following year a pregnant female was purchased with male cria at foot, joined the following year by another 4 females. Since then we have been slowly increasing our herd with home bred animals and at the beginning of 2008 have a total of 20.

We have always been fibre orientated hence our flock of Merino and Merino cross sheep that we have kept for the past 25 years and won many championships with their fleece, and the alpacas were seen as the next step to take over from the sheep that we no longer breed. Our alpacas all have lovely soft fibre in a mix of colours including pale fawn through to darker brown and of course white. A lot of the fibre is sold to hand spinners after it has been sorted but some is kept and hand spun here on the farm in my Studio and then hand woven into scarves, stoles etc.

Our alpacas are quiet, inquisitive creatures who always love to come and see what is going on. They are all BAS registered and micro-chipped. We breed Huacaya alpacas which have a dense crimped fleece as opposed to the Suri which have a silky fibre which hangs in locks.

Alpacas originally came from Peru, Chile and Bolivia and are part of the Camelid family which includes of camels, llamas, alpacas, guanacos and vicunas.

We are always happy to advise and help new and prospective owners so please do not hesitate to contact us.
